I just wanted to say.
The second song of the night: Ramble On Rose, I just wanted to say that a lot of the singing I've heard from Donna has seemed kinda off & lots of times I felt like they may have been better if Donna had just kept her mouth shut. And I know that may sound harsh but sometimes it just seems like she's not in the right key. BUT THE SINGING SHE DOES TO COMPLIMENT JERRY DURING RAMBLE ON ROSE SOUNDS REALLY GREAT

Crazy night
you can NOT miss this stand-alone "Scarlet", "Row Jimmy", Stephen->Other One. Essentials. All are rousing, guitar fireworks, long jamming, so heady. Also excellent from tonight are estimated prophet, stella blue, and brown eyed women.

Don't you let that DEAL go down
This is a good set for Donna starting at Deal and moaning low during Scarlet. Overall a tight set with a peak at Deal & Cassidy and another at Estimated & Scarlet. They really stretch towards the end of Begonias A nice home town show where you get a Second Set Row Jimmy as well as rockin' Promised. Overall relaxed feel and laid back Keith good in the mix at times Big highlights already well documented Between Garcia playing and Weir sweet vocals what more could a head need. The Phil Zone! They are just getting warmed up here and those great May 77 shows are just ahead Really tight Other One! The jam between TOO into Stella that's what it's all about.

Woke up in San Mateo; WTF
Had been seeing the Dead infrequently since 1973; Kezar with Waylon was #1. Was just 14 for that. By these shows I was a regular – hanging off the Winterland stage at Bob Fried Memorial; all but two shows at the Orpheum; Loved the shows with the Who; and the 3/18 show two nights prior was so much fun. After a day partying out front I was ready for another beaut. Camera pans, Minglewood starts, I take a big swig off a water jug being passed around, thirsty, mind you, and by the end of Ramble Rose I’m seeing everything in Sepia and black tones, a Mex Sennet movie starring me....ohhhhhhhhhh. What a night. Trying to decifer Ramble on Rose - Psychically surfing the universe’s waves- Long, unbelievable night. I’m nearly 60 and it still tops the charts of my weirdest nights ever!!! (Oh, and before the water jug I’d already taken a hit of windowpane.) hmfff.

I'm not a huge fan of 77 -- not by a long shot. But this recording has a real nice vibe to it and the song selection and sequencing is darn near perfect. Keith is a key factor here. Happy Spring!

Beautiful
The Stephen > Other One > Stella is desert island material. No one I've ever heard play can pull of this kind of segue into Stella like Jerry. Absolute beauty in guitar... The guitar runs in Stella are pristine Funny how '77 has so many moments like this. Jerry just clean and melodic and playing soul music

Beautiful sound. Charlie miller does a great job again. St. Stephens is superb. Slowed down a bit, with crystyl clear audio.
Hey, Patty Falafal, you don't offend me. I do the same thing. How many versions of "Me and My Uncle" does one need? "Completists" can howl and gnash their teeth, but so what. That said, this entire stand at Winterland is top-notch.

The first review of this show in almost 3 years?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I always wondered what happened to these shows, and now they are back. Jerry is on another level for his solo in Row Jimmy. It will bring tears to your eyes. Like, rapture. The rest of the show is 5* too - great versions of everyday songs like Ramble on Rose and Cassidy, and good sound quality throughout.

Good show, good sound
Some good playing and singing, but too many flubs by the band for a 5. (St. Stephan, Around and Around, to name of few.)

Other One ending
There is some absolutely beautiful soft and pretty guitar work by Jerry during the last 5 mins of the Other One before it segues into Stella Blue. Be sure to lend an ear ;) 5* officially

right on the money...five stars for the 19th and 20th...I know "purists" (to steal a baseball term) will hate this but I did a three disc (omitted some of my lesser liked--to be kind--tunes) composite of the two nites that just is an absolute screaming freiking joy to listen to, which is what it really is all about anyhow...we all enjoy the boys in our own special way...thanks again to all involved in making this music available to us, we're sincerely forever in your debt, signed-grateful buckdancer.

4 or a 5?
Tough decision. Terrapin second encore's nice. This source is definately better than the other one. Im gonna give it a 4 due to the nasty flubbing of Peggy-o.

As good as Winterland gets
These are very hot, timeless shows. Whole first set, second set, Scarlet (one of the last of the stand alone style and I think my favorite stand alone on this whole site) is exceptional. Check out the triumphant St Stephen>Other One a magical combo on an off night, however they were very on this night... Sound quality is peerless - This is the show that you give to people when they want to get it...
